Front Station - How to add modifier(Top Menu)?

How to Apply Modifiers on Front Station? (Top Menu Version)

💡 To meet customers' personalized dietary needs (such as custom flavors, allergen annotations, etc.), you can configure standardized modifier options for your dishes. This not only reduces the communication cost of manual notes but also guides and recommends paid add-ons through pop-ups, effectively boosting average order value (AOV) and ensuring precise food preparation and inventory deduction in the kitchen.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. This guide applies to the newly redesigned MOD interface layout under the 【Top Menu Style】. If your system is set to the right menu style, please refer to the Right Menu Version Guide.

  1. Backend Prerequisite Configuration: Please log in to the Merchant Portal first (admin.fronttab.com) and navigate to 【Menu】【Modifier Group ➔ **【Add/Edit Modifier】 to complete the basic setup.

Operational Scenarios:

1. Basic Ordering Scenarios

【Scenario 1: Dish is configured as "Required during ordering"】

  • Description: When a modifier group is set to "Required" in the Merchant Portal, the system will force the modifier selection prompt to prevent missing items.

  • Operational Effect: On the Station ordering interface, clicking to add this dish will automatically trigger the MOD side panel.

【Scenario 2: Dish is configured as "Optional during ordering"】

  • Description: When a modifier group is optional, the system defaults to not showing a pop-up actively. However, if "Auto pop-up" under 【Modifier Behavior】 is enabled in the backend, the panel will still trigger automatically; if disabled, it will not.

  • How to Operate: If the panel does not pop up automatically and a customer requests a modifier on the spot, first select the dish in the cart, then click the dish again to manually summon the MOD panel.

【Scenario 3: Modifying modifiers that have already been added】

  • Description: Allows making secondary adjustments or increasing/decreasing quantities and prices for modifiers on dishes that have not yet been sent to the kitchen.
  • How to Operate: Select the dish you want to modify in the order list, then click the dish again to enter the MOD panel to re-select or adjust.

【Scenario 4: Adding both modifiers and special requests simultaneously】

  • Description: Supports completing standardized modifier selections and temporary Special Requests at the same time within a single interface.
  • How to Operate: You can either click the separate 【Mod】 button after selecting the dish to add special requests, or directly check and add special requests simultaneously right within the modifier panel interface.

2. Top Menu Smart Interactions

To improve ordering efficiency, the brand-new top menu MOD window supports the following smart interactions:

  • Flexible Full-Screen/Half-Screen Toggling 📱

  • Mechanism: The MOD area displays as a slide-out panel on the right side. You can configure whether a dish displays as "Half-Screen" or "Full-Screen" by default for [each dish] or [each item size] in the Merchant Portal (admin.fronttab.com) (toggle on for full-screen, off for half-screen).

  • How to Switch: While operating on the Station, simply click the top area of the MOD half-screen panel to quickly toggle between [half-screen / full-screen] views.

  • Smart Auto-Skip and Auto-Close ⚡

  • Skip on Max Quantity: When a modifier group has a set "maximum allowable quantity" and it is fully selected, the system will automatically skip to the next [uncompleted] modifier group.

  • Auto-Close on Fully Completed: If all groups have a maximum selection limit and are entirely filled out, the system will automatically close the MOD panel, saving you a manual click.

  • Blank Area Click Logic 🖱️
  • When tapping any blank space on the screen, if all required options for all groups are completed, the system will automatically close the MOD panel. If incomplete required items remain, the system will automatically jump to the unfinished group and highlight the options to remind the server to fill them in.

  • Quick Deselection ✖️
  • If a MOD group is set to "single selection per option," tapping an option selects it, and tapping it again will directly deselect it.

  • Flexible Interface Tags 🔖
  • After selecting a modifier (Mod) or Special Request, a corresponding modifier tag will appear underneath the dish in the cart. This tag is only used for front-end verification and will not show up when printing checkout receipts.
