FrontStation - How to configure employee break time?
How to configure employee break time?
💡 Helps you translate complex labor law requirements into automated system records, accurately control employee working hours and labor costs, and protect the restaurant from legal risks due to non-compliant break durations.
I. How to Create and Enable Break Rules?
You must create and enable break rules in the Front's merchant dashboard (Admin.fronttab.com) before employees can clock out for breaks on the POS terminal.

Navigate to the path: [Admin.fronttab.com] → [Organization] → [Employee Attendance Report] → [Break Setting]

- Break Setting: You need to click [Break Setting] on the page to add the break name, duration, type, whether to allow early end, and [Enable] these rules. Currently, a maximum of 9 break rules can be configured.
- Rule Type: Please select "Paid/Unpaid." Note that unpaid break duration will not be included in the employee's salary calculation.

- Break Frequency: Employees can take multiple breaks as needed between a Clock In and a Clock Out.

- [Friendly Reminder] If you modify or delete a break rule in the backend after an employee has started a break, the current break record will not be affected and will still be settled according to the original rule. The changed rule will take effect the next time the employee takes a break.

II. Working Hours and Salary Calculation
The system automatically tracks and calculates employee working hour data:
- Clock in &out Duration (h): Total time from Clock In to Clock Out.
- Unpaid Break (h): Break duration that is not included in the salary.
- Hours Worked (h): Clock in & out Duration - Unpaid Break. Employee salary calculation is based solely on this "Hours Worked."

You can view, summarize, and edit employee break records in the Front's merchant dashboard, and also export the records for review.

III. Break Time Restriction and Approval Mechanism
This mechanism is used to ensure that employee break durations comply with labor regulations.
1. Break Time Restriction Setting
Navigate to the path: [Admin.fronttab.com] → [Organization] → [Employee Attendance Report] → [Break Setting]
- Switch ON: Please pay attention to and configure the "End Break Early" switch (default is ON).

- Switch OFF: If you turn this switch OFF, the employee will not be able to end the break before the preset duration is completed, and a pop-up prompt will appear on the Station terminal.

2. Break Approval Process
When an employee cannot end a break early, they can initiate a request:
- After the employee initiates the request, they must enter the PIN of a role with [Break Approval] permission to end the break early.

3. Break Approval Permission Configuration
Please set which roles have approval permission.
Navigate to the path: [Admin.fronttab.com] → [Organization] → [Role Management] → [Edit] → [Break Approval]
- Default Authorization: Owner and Manager roles have this permission by default.
- Permission Adjustment: You can manually configure permissions for other roles.

IV. Report Statistics
- Statistical Items: Reports will include statistics for "Paid Break," "Unpaid Break," and "Hours Worked," making it easy for you to review and verify.
- Order/Tip Attribution: The rules for attributing orders and tips during the break remain unchanged; they still belong to the original server and will not be automatically transferred by the system.
- Output Support: Tip reports support printing and exporting.
